Courthouse work is delayed again

LONG-AWAITED work on Killarney courthouse has again been delayed, it was claimed yesterday.

Courthouse work is delayed again

The Courts Service has proposals for a €1.6m refurbishment of the structure, one of the oldest buildings in the tourist town, but these plans have not yet been finalised.

There has also been disagreement between the service and Killarney Town Council about the proposals.

Kerry South Labour TD Breeda Moynihan Cronin has called on the Government to speed up the renovations which, she claimed, was one of the key promises of Fianna Fáil locally at the last general election, now three years ago.

But, she said, information she had received from the Courts Service indicated that the renovation work was still on the long finger.

“The courthouse in Killarney has been in need of refurbishment for many years,” she stated.

“As of now, there is no indication that this essential work is going to be carried out soon.”
