High-rise apartments will create ghettos, councillors fear

FEARS have been expressed that too many high-rise apartment blocks are being built in Co Cork which will could turn into the “ghettos of the future.”

A number of county councillors expressed their concern yesterday after Cllr Michael McGrath (FF) said he wanted a policy put in place that all such developments are constructed with scale in mind and to the highest possible standard.

He said that while it might be okay to build apartment blocks in urban areas, it wasn’t in rural ones and he was worried by the number of planning applications for such developments now landing on officials’ desks.
