Gardaí bid to keep death probe low-key

GARDAÍ tried to keep a fresh probe into the mysterious death of a veteran political activist under wraps as they were worried about conducting the investigation under a media spotlight, it has emerged.

A team from Garda headquarters, headed by a Chief Superintendent, is in Donegal to carry out the new investigation in to the death of 49-year-old Mary Reid, a former republican activist.

Her family said they had been asked not to reveal news of the investigation and said it was disappointing the information had leaked out, describing it as “inappropriate.”
