Walker Cup golfer suffers injuries to head in unprovoked attack

GARDAÍ in Tipperary town are following a definite line of enquiry following a vicious, unprovoked assault on former Walker Cup golfer Arthur Pierse.

Mr Pierse, who is one of Ireland’s most celebrated amateur golfers, was driving out of his garage premises on the Limerick Road on Tuesday with his 13-year-old daughter when he noticed that his car was spattered with eggs and milk.

When he got out of the vehicle he was approached by a man who headbutted him in the face knocking him to the ground. His assailant then struck him a number of blows on the body and head before leaving the scene on foot.
