Arrests as gardaí find gun and ammunition
Armed detectives from Roxboro Road station, led by Detective Sergeant Tom O’Connor, surrounded the house and two people, in their 20s, were arrested.
The gun and ammunition were found in a follow-up search.
Both arrested people are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
A garda spokesman said yesterday’s arrests and searches were part of an ongoing operation to tackle serious crime in the area.
Roxboro gardaí are also investigating a shooting incident in Janesboro in which a bullet was fired into a house. Nobody was hurt.
Meanwhile, the Limerick teenager brutally assaulted on Friday night was still in a critical condition last night.
Darren Coughlan, aged 18, from Moyross, is on a life support machine at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital.
The attack happened near the Limerick Institute of Technology accommodation village on the Old Cratloe Road between 10.15pm and 10.30pm on Friday.
Mr Coughlan was with a number of other youths when a red car pulled up.
After words were exchanged three people got out of the car and chased Mr Coughlan who ran off.
They cornered him a short distance away and launched a brutal attack in which he was repeatedly kicked in the head as he lay on the ground.
Gardaí have been conducting house to house inquires following the attack.
