Radon checks still ignored in 53 schools

MORE than 50 schools have still not signed up to be tested for levels of cancer-causing radon gas, despite repeated calls to have measurements taken.

The Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland (RPII) is sending around 6,000 radon detectors to 444 schools this week.

They were among the 565 which had either never received such equipment or had not returned testing kits to the RPII for reading.
