Body of young man discovered in field

GARDAÍ are awaiting the results of toxicology tests following the discovery of a 20-year-old man in a field in Kerry over the weekend.

A post mortem examination was carried on the body of Timothy (Timmy) Somers, of Deerpark, Killarney on Saturday night and gardaí have confirmed they are no longer treating the death as suspicious.

The body was found by a passer-by at Ballytrasna, Faha, about eight miles from the town, at 9.30am on Saturday. There were no visible injuries on Mr Somers’ body, which was found lying face downwards.

Meanwhile, a middle-aged Dublin man was seriously injured after accidentally shooting himself at his home in Ballyfermot early yesterday morning.

Gardaí were called to the house on Landen Road, Ballyfermot, at around 4.05am after reports of a man with shotgun wounds to the head. The 45-year-old victim was rushed to St James's Hospital for treatment for his injuries. His condition was last night described as “critical but stable”.

Garda sources said there were unlikely to be any arrests in connection with the incident.

It is understood that a domestic argument broke out between the man and another family member shortly before the incident.
