PUPILS at Kilmore Quay National School, one of the country’s largest and most run-down primary schools, are today wondering just what can happen next to disrupt their education.

They’ve watched rain come through the roof, toilets overflow and heating pipes burst. Their school has been closed for the past 11 days because heating pipes which run under floors burst on November 13. All 392 pupils have been sitting at home ever since.

The school in County Wexford has excelled in all areas and its 22 teachers and eight special needs assistants take great pride in their work. But the conditions are now taking their toll, principal Paula Carolan said yesterday.
