Lawyers denounce Bush

IRISH lawyers have rebuffed George Bush’s attempts to exonerate himself personally over the maltreatment of Iraqi prisoners.

Junior counsel Giollaíosa Ó Lideadha said that documents released did not exonerate the US president: “The absence of a memo from the White House specifically directing the use of horrific torture proves nothing.”

Senior Counsel Fergal Kavanagh said: “It is clearly essential that a full independent investigation be carried out into the role which may have been played by President Bush and his senior officials in respect of the institutionalised torture which appears to have taken place.”
