THERE are no up to date records detailing the number of children with autism in Ireland.

One in 166 children born in Ireland will have autism

However, both the Irish Autism Alliance and the Department of Health, following a review of the situation last year, now accept that one in 166 children born will be affected by the condition.

Chelation therapy was first developed by the US navy as a way of removing toxic metals from the bodies of military personnel exposed to high concentrations of lead during the 1940s.

One of the best and safest chelators is DMSA. While not approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in autism, it is approved for the removal of lead from children who have been diagnosed with lead poisoning.

It also binds to mercury that has accumulated in the system.

DMSA has been tested on children and found to be safe and effective when properly used.

The Irish Autism Alliance has over 1,000 members.

Their website address is www.irishautismalliance.com and their telephone number is 01-8531000.
