THE humble toaster has been banned from the grounds of a leading Dublin hospital because it was causing too many false fire alarms.

St James’ Hospital was being plagued with up to three false fire alarms a day, with each one triggering a hugely expensive automatic call-out from Dublin Fire Brigade.

The revelation of the ban will enlighten the thousands of patients puzzled by the absence of the breakfast favourite at St James’.
