Racist attacks up by 60%

RACIST attacks increased by 60% in the second-half of last year according to a Government watchdog.

The National Consultative Committee on Racism and Interculturalism (NCCRI), which first established a system for recording racist incidents in May 2001, logged 67 racially motivated incidents between May and October 2002.

That compares with just 40 attacks for the previous six months.
