THE IRISH EU presidency is seeking to introduce measures to allow immigration authorities vet everyone travelling into Europe.

The measure similar to rules now in place in the US would allow immigration police in EU member states to instruct travel companies not to allow certain passengers, such as potential terrorists and suspected illegal immigrants, to travel.

The draft EU Council directive, prepared by the Irish Government, also proposes imposing hefty fines of up to 5,000 on air and sea carriers which do not submit accurate lists of passengers to immigration authorities before departing.
