TRANSPORT Minister Martin Cullen last night warned that the Government could do only so much to tackle road fatalities, saying drivers had to act more responsibly.

“At Government, we are working hard to reduce deaths and injuries on our roads,” he said. “[But] with nine out of 10 deaths due to bad driver behaviour, the person behind the wheel has the most power to improve things. That person is not someone else; that person is every single driver.”

Mr Cullen was announcing the new road safety bill, which received Cabinet approval yesterday morning.
