Government under fire as 374 die on our roads

THE Government’s record on road safety came under fire last night after figures showed rising numbers of deaths on the roads.

Figures released yesterday by the National Roads Authority (NRA) showed that 374 people were killed on the roads in 2004 - while this year’s toll is already approaching 400.

Eddie Shaw, who last month quit the National Safety Council in protest over the Government’s road safety record, last night accused ministers of failing to invest in safety.
