MORE than one-third of voluntary secondary schools inspected last year had no safety statement, according to the Health and Safety Authority.

All employers are legally obliged to have such a document, identifying risks in the workplace and outlining resources for safety, health and welfare.

The ASTI, representing teachers at the country’s 450 voluntary secondary schools attended by 80% of second level students, is concerned about safety issues for members at work.
