THE National Parents Council has welcomed a ban by a fast food chain on employing Leaving Certificate students during the school week.

McDonald’s, which employs about 500 fifth- and sixth-year students in its 71 restaurants in Ireland, says students studying for their Leaving Cert will continue to be allowed to work at weekends and during school holidays, but not during the school week.

National Parents Council Post Primary president Eleanor Petrie said McDonald’s was setting an example with not employing students during school time.
