But then she would have missed the opportunity to mention the words that are crucial to her career. Family, constituents, Mayo, home. She thanked the first two profusely for their support and expressed her heartfelt desire to get back to the last pair.

In doing so, she deftly and deliberately reinforced her role as representative of a region geographically and psychologically removed from the Dublin of her downfall, and presented herself as a loyal servant of the people who in turn was humbled by their allegiance.
