New garda digital radio system 'may cause health hazard'

GARDA representatives have called for an independent body to monitor any possible health damage associated with their planned digital communication system.

The request comes after garda bosses announced this week an extension to a pilot scheme with the proposed purchase of 100 additional portable radios.

The TETRA digital radio system has been tested since at least 2000, with a full pilot scheme in place since 2002.
