CORK County Council has warned people to conserve water supplies as wells have nearly run dry in one area of Co Cork, while in another part water consumption is up by 33%.

Three wells serving more than 60 homes in the Coachford or Dripsey areas ran dangerously low late last week causing concern to local authority engineers.

All householders in the affected area were contacted by council staff who advised them against using water unnecessarily, especially on gardens and washing cars.
