Beach ‘a pet toilet’

GALWAY’S dog owners have got to stop treating Salthill’s promenade as a toilet for their pets as it is creating a health hazard, says former mayor Cllr John Mulholland.

Cllr Mulholland feels Salthill is becoming an increasingly dangerous place to bring children with all the dog dirt and litter, and he is calling on dog owners to stop thinking of the area as an “animal loo”.

“Now that we have our water treatment plant up and running at Mutton Island,” he said, “it’s time to tackle the ever-present problem of animal droppings on our beaches, the prom and in the playing areas which have the potential to cause serious illness for children who, unwittingly, come in contact with them.”
