Don’t pander to unionist intransigence, urges Sinn Féin leader

GERRY Adams yesterday urged the British government to ditch attempts to woo Ian Paisley’s DUP into a peace deal and press ahead with troop cuts in Northern Ireland.

The Sinn Féin president insisted London and Dublin had spent long enough working on the Democratic Unionists and should begin a military scale-down.

Smarting over the failure to restore power sharing in Belfast during the summit in Kent, when unprecedented IRA disarmament seemed on the table, he said unionists should not be allowed grasp for excuses.
