Donaldson faces North-South debate with Martin
In Cork, along with the Minister for Enterprise, Micheál Martin, the Democratic Unionist MP will debate the economic benefits of the Northern peace process and the future of the country.
Members of the audience will also get a chance to put questions to both speakers and responding to points they raise.
The meeting will be chaired by Irish Examiner editor Tim Vaughan and Mr Martin and Mr Donaldson will cover three areas:
* Their personal and political backgrounds from the republican and unionist traditions.
* The economic divided of the peace process.
* The future for Ireland.
Last night, Mr Martin described the event as a “highly symbolic” public meeting and said it will provide a forum for cross-community debate on some of the most important issues at the moment.
Welcoming the opportunity to put the Unionist case to wider audience in terms of both the current political and economic situation in the North, Mr Donaldson said that there are opportunities for co-operation on all fronts to increase mutual understanding and respect.
The meeting will take place in Moran’s Silver Springs Hotel in Cork next Monday at 8pm.
