A SENIOR detective yesterday told the Morris Tribunal he was appointed to oversee the handling of Adrienne McGlinchey after a fellow officer said she and other gardaí could be in danger as her identity as an alleged informer had become too widely known.

Detective Superintendent Kevin Lennon told the corruption investigation he was appointed to oversee the case in 1993 after Letterkenny-based Detective Superintendent Denis Fitzpatrick circulated a memo highlighting problems surrounding Ms McGlinchey.

However, Ms McGlinchey continued working with gardaí and Kevin Lennon was appointed liaison officer between her and her then handler Detective Garda Noel McMahon.
