Government to revise entry to medical schools

The Coalition parties are under increasing pressure to reform the entry method and relieve pressure on school leavers, as only those with at least four A1s and two A2s are eligible for medicine places this year. The CAO cut-off points rose again this week and are between 570 and 590 out of a maximum 600 points.

A spokesperson for Education Minister Mary Hanafin said the issue will be discussed between Ms Hanafin and Tánaiste Mary Harney next month, as they are awaiting the report of a task force set up to consider the issue.
