THE family of an elderly man who died after he was denied basic surgery because of hospital cutbacks has said he suffered a death no animal would be allowed endure.

As outcry grew over the fate of the latest victim of the country’s chaotic health services, the relatives of 75-year-old Patrick Walsh, who died at Monaghan General Hospital on Friday, received mixed messages from the Government.

Tánaiste and Health Minister Mary Harney signalled her willingness to meet the family.
