McCreevy no-confidence vote today

THE Minister for Finance, Charlie McCreevy, misled voters to win the general election and he has no option but to resign, Fine Gael finance spokesman Richard Bruton said last night.

But Taoiseach Bertie Ahern robustly defended his finance minister by brushing aside a Dáil motion of no-confidence and rounding on Fine Gael.

Mr Ahern accused FG of rewriting history after what he called a failed three-card trick in the general election in May.
