One in every 160 teen girls received hospital treatment after self-harming

ONE in every 160 teenage girls was treated for deliberate self-harm in hospital last year, according to the latest figures from the National Parasuicide Registry.

Almost half of people who present in accident and emergency wards with deliberate self-harm are under the age of 30 but the group most likely to self-harm is women aged 15-19.

About 11,000 cases of self-harm were presented at hospitals last year these cases involved 8,600 people meaning that a significant number of people deliberately self-harmed more than once.
