Francis aims to put manners on Dustin

"Keeping Dustin in his place won't be easy but I'm determined to keep him in line especially regarding his views on people from the country," says the Co Leitrim native.

Yesterday the 24-year-old strutted his stuff for the cameras at Montrose when he was unveiled as new presenter of The Den.

He makes his debut on Network 2 with Dustin, Soky and the gang on Monday, September 8.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to bits to have landed the job and I can't wait to get started," said Francis, a part-time DJ. He currently works with MBNA Europe in Carrick-on-Shannon.

Francis has earned his spurs. Literally, thousands of hits were recorded on the Den website page containing the application form after RTÉ launched a nationwide search for a new Den presenter on June 2.

Out of 1,000 hopefuls, each of whom submitted a three-minute video piece, Francis was plucked to front the hugely popular children's programme. He's never done television before.

A whistle stop tour in the Hi-ace van to vet the short-listed candidates saw Dustin insist they head for Leitrim last . Dustin we're told was worried about the availability of toilet facilities and electricity for the gang.

The Manorhamilton man is the fourth presenter of the popular programme which draws fans of all ages. Ian Dempsey, who blazed a trail, was followed by Ray D'Arcy who was replaced by Damien McCall, "Dustin's best friend," if you believe the blurb.

Damien currently presents The House Party, a three-hour dance show every Friday night from 7pm on 2FM.

A graduate of Ballyfermot College of Further Education in Dublin, Francis took an honours degree in media management and production last year. His interests include music, cycling and computers.
