GARDAÍ declined yesterday to be drawn into a row with Transport Minister Séamus Brennan after he accused the force of delaying full implementation of the penalty points system.

The minister claimed garda traffic corps’ officers, involved in the speeding clampdown, were focusing on easy targets. He also underlined his annoyance with gardaí failure to computerise the penalty points scheme.

A garda spokesperson said yesterday Minister Brennan was entitled to express a personal opinion on the issues raised.
