PARENTS have called for an overhaul of the State exam correction system after more than 300 students were given Leaving Certificate upgrades without even appealing their results.

The Department of Education has isolated the work of five particular assistant examiners and found the exams they graded were wrongly marked.

Department of Education officials found a number of papers originally corrected by these five assistant examiners were hiked up by 10% or more on appeal. So they went back to look at other exams marked by the five assistant examiners. As a result of the recheck, 325 upgrades were ordered.
