Festive fare: Dolores opts for Christmas at home
She has ordered a 20lb turkey and a smoked Limerick ham from Brendan Loughnane’s butchers shop in William Street.
Dolores has decided old customs are best amid media speculation she would spend some of her €115 million winnings on a holiday with her family in the Caribbean.
And she has told friends she wants this Christmas to be the same as heretofore, among family and neighbours.
The fresh turkey cost €50 and the ham €35.
Her husband, Adrian will collect the Christmas lunch ingredients next week, having placed an order in recent days at Loughnane’s.
Brendan Loughnane, who has been running a meat shop in William Street for 21 years said yesterday: “Dolores has been a long-time customer and her husband Adrian told staff after her big win that they still want the good ‘ordinary food’ they always got her.”
Brendan has won awards at the Smithfield meat market in London for the quality of his produce.
The McNamara’s have passed up on the special Christmas hamper offer at Loughnane’s.
Brendan said: “This consists of rolled turkey, fillet of ham, 4lb roast beef, two pork steaks, streaky rashers, bag of stuffing and a pound of sausages all for €59.”
Reports that Dolores was going to jet off to an exotic holiday for Christmas have been dismissed by her close friend, publican Paddy Tobin. And Dolores won’t be bringing in any chef to help prepare the Christmas day dinner for the McNamara household.
One friend said: “Dolores is a good cook and always loves the hype preparing the Christmas day dinner. It’s a big day in every house, particularly when there are six children.”
Dolores and Adrian will be joined at their modest bungalow home in St Patrick’s Road, Garryowen by their children, Dawn 28, Kim 22, Kevanne 20, Gary 26, Dean 15 and Lee 22.
Gary’s partner and their young child will also celebrate Christmas day at the family home. Dolores recently bought the couple a new €350,000 home.
