WATERFORD city is to get a team of community-based gardaí from next month as part of a major drive to tackle crime.

By working in partnership with the community, gardaí can make a real difference and prevent as well as tackle crime, Garda Superintendent Dave Sheahan said yesterday.

Addressing a community safety conference, he said when compared to urban hubs of a similar size, Waterford is a safe place to live. And he said new partnerships under Joint Policing Committees will work well to Waterford’s advantage.
