FoI request charges ‘an attempt to keep people out’

THE Government has been accused of attempting to destroy the Freedom of Information Act by charging for information requests.

Charges approved by Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy mean the public will have to pay €15 per request from July 7.

Anyone whose request is refused faces a €75 bill if they want the decision reviewed and a further appeal to the Information Commissioner costs €150.
