Limerick over 50s club set up

A NEW club for men over 50 has been set up in Limerick.

Limerick over 50s club set up

Austin O’Donovan, one of the four men behind the club, said: “Our intention is to meet with a view to discuss various matters of interest. It’s basically a simple idea and we feel there is a need for such a club.”

The club meets every Tuesday at St Joseph’s Parish Hall in O’Connell Avenue and the others involved in setting up the club are Brendan Clinton, John King and Roy McCormack.

While the new club is primarily aimed for men living in St Joseph’s Parish, others are welcome.

Mr O’Donovan said: “There are men who are widowers and can feel isolated when their wife dies. We have just started and we will move out and go and meet for a coffee in local pubs and cafes.”

And Austin is well up on Limerick pubs. He has written a book on Limerick pubs called 365 Days Less than Two Days.

He said: “We plan to go on day trips to places like Kilkee and Lahinch. We would also like to go to places of local historic interest. There is so much that a club like this can do.”
