A SON found his father crushed to death on a family farm in Co Cork yesterday morning.

The Health and Safety Authority us investigating the death of father of two, PJ O’Connor, who was in his mid 60s and who was found dead on the family farm in Dromore, Bantry.

Gardaí said it appeared that he was walking underneath a silage grab, which was attached to the back of his tractor, when it fell and crushed him to death.

He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 10.00am by local doctor Matt Murphy.

Mr O’Connor’s body will be taken to Cork University Hospital this morning where a post mortem examination will be carried out.

In 2005 there were 17 deaths in agriculture, up by four on 2004, and seven involved people over 65 years. There were two child fatalities in 2005.
