MORE than 500 people have called a confidential hotline to inform on friends, neighbours and family members who they suspect of making bogus insurance claims.

The Insurance Confidential phone service has received 546 calls since it was set up by the Irish Insurance Federation (IIF) three months ago, and chief executive Michael Kemp said it was proving a "resounding success."

"There is a strong level of interest and support for the federation's anti-fraud campaign, and a real public desire for action against fraudulent claimants," Mr Kemp said.
