Hand hygiene guidelines to fight MSRA

GUIDELINES that emphasise basic hand hygiene to stop the spread of the hospital superbug MRSA have been welcomed by lobby group Patient Focus.

Group spokesperson Cathriona Molloy said they regarded the Health Service Executive (HSE) guidelines as a positive move but felt it was sad that posters had to be used to make doctors and nurses wash their hands.

Patients in intensive care, particularly the elderly, are most at risk from MRSA.
