Carers to receive improved grant

MORE than 20,000 carers working with disabled or the elderly are to receive an improved respite grant from the Government this week.

At a cost of €17 million, the annual grant for those who already receive the carer’s allowance or carer’s benefit will be €735 this year.

This is a €100 rise on last year’s payment and treble the grant since its introduction four years ago.
