THE Revenue Commissioners are getting tough with tax evaders and cutting off loopholes that allowed them write off almost 1bn over five years. Revenue Commissioner chairman Frank Daly revealed a series of tough new measures yesterday aimed at preventing tax write-offs.

These include the new Dedicated Pursuit Unit aimed at stopping company directors going into liquidation and setting up new businesses and new tax evasion regulations to target pubs, hotels and property developments.

A review of all business write-offs in the past two years of over 100,000 will also be carried out to see if they are correct. The Revenue Commissioner chairman made these revelations yesterday to the Public Accounts Committee.
