Geography marking was much tougher than expected

“That seems to be the general reaction. The paper was definitely marked hard. You could write 25-30 pages and get a C1 or a B3”, said Fergus O’Donoghue after getting his results at St Brendan’s College, Killarney.

Overall however, he was happy with his results which were very much as he expected and should qualify him for a quantity surveying course in Limerick IT.

Fellow St Brendan’s student, John Cronin, agreed. John felt that his marks won’t get him his first choice - law in UCC - but he will still be happy to get into accounting in UCC.

Also quite pleased were other St Brendan’s students, Damien O’Brien and Niall O’Mahony. Damien will be doing structural engineering at CIT.

Niall said he may still get his first choice - physical education teaching at University of Limerick - but would also be happy with primary teaching at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick.

At St Brigid’s Secondary School, Killarney, a thrilled Karen Barry was all smiles, revealing that she had done way better than expected and was now looking forward to starting her primary teaching course at Mary Immaculate College.

She said she even surprised herself, with her points in Business and Home Economics being much higher than she expected.

Also at St Brigid’s, Eileen Lucey, from Knocknagree, Co Cork, was delighted with her points - with the results in Maths, Irish and Home Economics exceeding her expectations.

Eileen will be taking Business Studies at CIT.

Another St Brigid’s student, Grainne O’Sullivan, was also pleased with her performance, which will give her her first choice - Business in UCC.

She was particularly happy about getting an A2 in Irish, her best subject.
