PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRAT leader Mary Harney said yesterday that her party is aiming to double its number of councillors in this year’s local elections to 60.

The Tánaiste said the Progressive Democrats are hoping to replicate their national success at local level to secure the roots of the party.

The Progressive Democrats are hoping to run between 150 and 160 candidates double what they ran in the last local elections. "We will be very disappointed if we don't have 60 councillors after June," Ms Harney said.
