Farrell gives emotional eulogy at his grandfather’s funeral
Farrell, 29, joined dozens of mourners at the funeral Mass for Jimmy Monaghan at Our Lady of Good Counsel church in Drimnagh.
The actor described his grandfather, who died aged 89, as “a true gentleman” and the “most beautiful of men”.
“Granddad was the original family man,” he said. “Granddad would never curse, so it’s fitting that I should now be standing in front of you today,” he joked.
The star of Alexander read a poem he had written for his grandfather, “in case the whole acting thing doesn’t work out”.
In the poem, he described Mr Monaghan as: “the truest father, the greatest man, the one and only gentleman Jim”.
Farrell was also a pallbearer at the family funeral.
After the mass, the actor met teenage fans who had gathered outside the church.
