Guarded welcome for immigration plan

THE Irish Council for Civil liberties yesterday gave a guarded welcome to the Government’s proposal to bring in new “removal orders” for foreign nationals that would operate outside the current deportation process.

This proposal is part of a detailed discussion document just published by Justice Minister Michael

McDowell that will be followed by a new Immigration and Residence Bill later this year.
