BUSES in Cork are to be run on environmentally-friendly bio-fuel as part of a pilot project announced yesterday.

Soaring fuel costs and the need to cut greenhouse gas emissions prompted the move, Bus Éireann said.

The company’s 160-vehicle Cork fleet is run entirely on diesel. It now plans to use bio-diesel - a blend of standard diesel with 5% bio-fuel produced from recovered vegetable oil - to run vehicles in its Cork City Tours fleet.
