Gardaí appeal for information in rape investigations

GARDAÍ in Limerick are making progress in their investigations into two alleged rapes in the city over the weekend.

A 19-year-old French student was found wandering injured in the Corbally area at 1am on Saturday after the family she was staying with reported her missing the previous night.

The victim claimed she was taken to waste ground at Shannon Field at about 11pm on Friday and raped. Her alleged attacker is described as being in his mid-20s with a tight-cut hair.

The victim was brought to the sexual assault treatment unit in the South Infirmary Hospital in Cork for medical and forensic tests.

“This incident is being fully investigated and we are appealing for any public assistance to help us in our inquiries. We are making progress in this case,” said a garda spokesman.

Meanwhile, gardaí at Henry Street station are following a definite line of inquiry in their investigation into the alleged rape of a woman in her 20s in a flat at Henry Street early last Friday morning.

The incident is alleged to have taken place between 2am and 3am. The victim was taken to the sexual assault unit at Cork University Hospital for examination.

“The matter is being fully investigated and we are following a definite line of inquiry,” a garda spokesman said.
