WATERFORD’S Mayor claims he has been “snubbed” by an organisation for which he and other have helped raise €40,000 over the years.

The Mayor was asked to stand out of a photograph being taken and was not allowed to speak when President Mary McAleese visited the city recently to open a new day-care unit for Alzheimer’s sufferers.

Waterford City Council has written a strongly-worded letter to the Alzheimer Society of Ireland expressing grave concern at what officials and councillors say were “departures from accepted and set down protocol” on the day.
