Government ‘must fund social housing to stop exodus’

ENTIRE communities will be forced to leave their homes unless the Government invests heavily in social housing, Threshold warned yesterday.

“Either invest in social housing or face a future where the polarisation of our society becomes even more extreme,” said Aideen Hayden, chairperson of the charity organisation for housing and the homeless.

Announcing its annual report for 2003, she spoke of “entire communities being uprooted and moved long distances from where they have grown up,” unless action was taken.
