Wedding cheers and jeers as couple party on

CELEBRATIONS at the Irish celebrity wedding of the year were still in full swing yesterday afternoon in France as Nicky and Georgina Byrne partied at the Chateau d'Esclimont.

Wedding cheers and jeers as couple party on

"They haven't even been to bed yet, in fact not many people slept at all over the weekend," said organiser Joanne Byrne.

The popstar and his leggy blonde bride spent the early hours of Sunday morning sifting through hundreds of wedding photographs with representatives from Hello! magazine who are set to pay around 850,000 for exclusive rights to all images.

After the wedding party had finished approving of shots for the glossy, the pictures were whisked off to Charles deGaulle airport where a private jet was on standby to transport them to Madrid. The issue featuring the marriage will be on news stands next week.

Meanwhile, sources have suggested that the jeering the couple got at the church on Saturday stemmed from a misunderstanding with locals.

"Nicky mentioned that people were booing, but the likely reason is that some of the locals got a bit peeved when they weren't allowed catch a glimpse of the bride and groom. It's traditional in France for ordinary people to drop into a church at weddings to get a look at the happy couple, so they obviously weren't too happy when they discovered they were banned like everyone else," said a source close to the couple.

Fellow Westlife band members and other friends of the bride and groom departed France last night, while the wedding party, including Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and his estranged wife Miriam, remained on in France until today.

Nicky and Georgina will leave for a sun holiday in the Seychelles on Wednesday.
