FLOOD victims who applied for compensation after torrential rain wreaked havoc in hundreds of homes and businesses across the country last month will not get any money before Christmas.

Some 531 householders made an application for aid following some of the worst floods to hit the country in decades. The deadline for aid applications to the Red Cross ended yesterday.

A spokesperson for the Red Cross, the organisation administering the scheme for the Government, said payments will vary from €1,500 to €30,000, and the average amount paid out will be €10,500.
